ALMOST 300 bags of litter were removed from a Barnsley beauty spot following a three-day clean-up.

Wombwell Woods was the subject of the clean-up, as Barnsley South Area’s caretaker team and environmental officer Andrea Walker joined councillors and members of Wombwell Womblers, Worsbrough Tidy Team and the Wath, West Melton and Brampton Litter Pickers.

A total of 270 bags of litter were removed.

Phil Hollingsworth, service director for communities, said: “Thank you to all the volunteers and council staff who have put in such great work to ensure Wombwell Woods is looking its best as the bluebells bloom.

“Clean-up days support our ongoing efforts to keep Barnsley clean, tidy and litter-free.

“If you have been inspired to join in or organise a litter pick in your neighbourhood, you can find more information on the council website.”
